I usually avoid street scenes, mainly because the distraction just gets to me and I lose concentration. I used to be very self-conscious about setting up in a public place too, but I've largely outgrown that! Anyway, I had some moral support from a few fellow painters when doing this one in Kilkenny recently. I still have a lot to learn about doing such scenes, but at least I feel I'm improving:-

Blatant practice for the Art in the Open event. Best of luck.
In my defence, Mick, I'm excluded from the competition since I'm a member of the Steering Committee! It was actually a "blatant" marketing campaign to attract attention for the Wexford event, so you're half right! I got a few tips from Michael Richardson about such scenes while in France and am trying them out.
Sorry that you can't make it over this year, but hopefully you can make it next year along with a good few more of our "Wetcanvas" friends.
I stumbled upon your blog and looked through your paintings. The paintings look very lively and colorful. I liked the way you post the reference picture from your camera along with the painting.

Thanks Prerana,
I usually show a photo of the scene to encourage others to paint plein air, because my paintings couldn't possibly be done from the photo reference.
